Do you wake up feeling tired? Does your partner complain that you snore loudly? You may suffer from Obstructive Sleep Apnea…
Sleep Apnea uncovered…
Snoring occurs when the muscles at the back of your mouth relax and fall back into your throat, causing a vibration. Sleep Apnea is similar to snoring but rather than the throat being partially blocked, the throat is completely blocked so you can’t breathe. The brain detects the loss of oxygen and kick starts your breathing again. Symptoms of Sleep Apnea can include tiredness during the day or anxiety and if left untreated, can lead to serious health risks in future.
Management and treatment
- Early diagnosis and treatment is the best option.
- Once we have diagnosed sleep apnea, we refer you to an ear/nose/throat specialist for detailed tests and an examination.
- The specialist will then do a sleep study and take special radiographs and scans.
- Removing your adenoids and tonsils is considered the first line of treatment. After surgery we work with you to keep your airways open.
